Entire government of Equatorial Guinea resigns

August 11, 2006

The whole government of Equatorial Guinea has resigned in one go following harsh criticism from the country’s President.

Teodoro Obiang Nguema has been attacking his own government for several months now, accusing it of corruption, incompetence, ignorance, general inability, and pretty much anything else he can think of.

It’s well known hat oil-rich E Guinea has one of the most corrupt governments in the entire world, surpassing even the narcodemocracies of South America, but observers have noted that most ministers will probably be given their old jobs back anyway.

Over the course of his 27-year reign, which started since he overthrew his uncle, Nguema has become a feared dictator in his own right. He won the last two elections with a whopping, and mildly unbelievably, 98% of the popular vote, but at the same time has put down numerous alledged coups with the kind of violence the CIA used to award medals for. Much of his government has been composed of his own family, and the large amounts of supposedly public oil money have disappeared in what he only refers to as ‘State secrets’.

Oddly, despite the vast quantities of oil in the former Spanish country, no move has been made byinternational forces to ‘liberate’ the nation.,
